US Immigration Reform Is A Priority Urged by Harvard President to US President Elect, Joe Biden

If you are concerned about US citizenship or immigration matters because of reforms in immigration policies and the latest information, then read it thoroughly. With a new president, Joe Biden, you might be worried about what will happen next, especially if you are a student. In the last few months of 2020, the Trump administration tried to restrict US F1 and M1 student visas during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it caused legal challenges to many universities in the US, including Harvard.

Lawrence Bacow, the president of Harvard University, urged Biden to prioritize US immigration reform for international students. He called on the then-president elect Biden to make the processing of US visas predictable and streamlined. When he turned his attention to the immigration system, he said that it is not exerting enough effort to encourage the legitimate flow of ideas and people or recognize the immigrants’ contributions to America.

The best asylum lawyer in New York would know that US consulates in other countries have resumed their visa services. With that in mind, Bacow is urging Biden to prioritize international scholars and students, and make sure that the processing of their US visa is made predictable and streamlined within a reasonable timeframe. He also urged the president to act quickly as foreign students under SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) will need to maintain their US visa status through a full-time course with distance learning. The flexibility should also be extended to new students amid theCOVID-19 pandemic.

As per the best asylum lawyer in New York, current immigration rules are prohibiting international students from entering the US if they are enrolled on US university courses solely online. The US ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) recommended keeping that rule in place because of the increasing COVID-19 cases in the country.
